Some of the coaches and managers have connections to West Ham some of which you may have forgotten about. So here they are.
Paul Nevin
West Ham’s current first team coach was headhunted by Gareth Southgate in August last year to return to be a coach for England for the first time since he previously left to take his role at West Ham at the start of 2020.
Lionel Scaloni
The Argentina manager may have only served a short loan spell at the club in 2006
making 13 appearances at the club as right back. But who could forget his rather infamous role in Gerrards equaliser in the thrilling 3-3 FA Cup Final defeat. Scaloni kicked the ball out of play after Djibril Cisse went down with an injury inside the box. Liverpool took the throw in giving the ball back to Scaloni who hoofed the ball up to the halfway line only to be received by Xabi Alonso who laid it off to John Arne Rise. The Norwegian then crossed the ball into the box which was cleared by only for Gerrard to smash the ball into the back of the net.
Argentina have enjoyed a successful World Cup under the former right back
reaching the final for the 6th time in there history and hoping to win 4th World Cup. They’ve redeemed themselves from a disappointing shock 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in there opening game. They’ve beaten the likes of Australia, Holland and Croatia in the knockout stages and Scaloni’s main stars of there campaign have been Messi, Alvarez, McAllister and goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Scaloni has been in charge of Argentina since August 2018 where he has managed them for 56 games winning 37 of them.
Rigobert Song
The Cameroon manager also enjoyed a brief playing career at West Ham from 2000 until 2002. He was signed as a replacement for Rio Ferdinand after he was sold to Leeds for £2.5 million. The then centre back made 18 Premier league appearances in his first season at the club and 5 league appearance in his second and the subsequently sent on loan to FC Koln in November 2001.
Cameroon may have not made it out of there group but there results involved a 1-0 opening game defeat to Switzerland followed by a thrilling 3-3 draw against Serbia. In there final game they beat a weakened Brazil team 1-0 thanks to a late winner from Vincent Aboubakar. Rigobert Song is Cameroon’s record appearance maker with 137 caps and was only appointed manager of the national side in March this year.
